As I type this, Berrien County precincts are reporting results from the 2010 election. Although 100 percent of precincts aren’t in, the results are in by a landslide in most races — voters want Republicans in office.

Rick Snyder is annihilating Democrat Virg Bernero in the gubernatorial race; U.S. Rep. Fred Upton has nearly three times the votes as Kalamazoo Democrat Don Cooney; John Proos is also over Benton Harbor Democrat Scott Elliot by about three times the votes for state Senate District 21; and incumbent state Rep. Sharon Tyler has pulled ahead of challenger Cindy Ellis of Sawyer in the 78th District.

The responses are varied on why voters are voting red this year, but the consensus is that they want change (does that sound familiar?), and they don’t agree with what’s being done at both the state and national capitols.

Call it being fed up, frustrated, disappointed … now matter the emotion, it’s all negative.

This election and the 2008 election have shown the power of elections. When people say your vote doesn’t count, this is where they are proven wrong. As the saying goes, “If you didn’t vote, don’t complain about it,” or something to that effect.

This will be an interesting race to follow up. How will these elected officials appease the voters? Will the economy be turned around in the next two years? Will jobs return? Will taxpayers’ confidence in lawmakers improve?
