One of Fernwood Botanical Garden’s most popular programs is coming to Dowagiac District Library Thursday, March 17.

Wendy Jones, head naturalist at Fernwood, presents “Backyard Birds” from 7 to 8 p.m. free of charge.
She will share her wealth of knowledge to help people increase the diversity of species at the birdfeeder and backyard garden and explain how to deter undesirable birds.
This program also focuses on identifying common birds we might see in southwest Lower Michigan.
Jones will answer questions about feeding stations and will provide participants plenty of other birding information.
Jones has been sharing her love of nature and the beauty of the outdoors with school children, day campers and countless visitors since arriving at Fernwood Botanic Garden and Nature Preserve, 13988 Rangeline Road, Niles, in 1991.
Her nature roots run deep into her Wisconsin childhood, with time spent exploring the woods, canoeing and swimming.
Part of her degree program in biology from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, included research in the South San Juan Mountains of Colorado and a semester abroad in Scotland.
Wendy is an accomplished birder, having traveled to Newfoundland, Arizona and Florida to enjoy new sightings.
As with her other popular programs, Wendy will inform and inspire her audience to find peace and beauty in the wonders of nature.
