Evelyn Flossie Smith, 81, of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Orchard Grove Extended Care Center in Benton Harbor.
Evelyn's life began on July 7, 1927, in Caruthersville, Mo. She was united in marriage to Alvin "Buss" Smith on May 4, 1950, in Pickett, Ark.
Evelyn was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo. She attended Keeler Church of God.
Her loving family includes her daughters Marie (Kenneth) Cook of Pokagon, Maude (Edward) Schoff of Dowagiac, Ruby Rampaio of Niles and Estella Jakie of Traverse City; her sons Daniel (Margaret) Smith of Dowagiac, William Batchler of Dowagiac, Alvin E. Smith of Dowagiac, David (Cindy) Smith of Lakeland, Fla., and Wesley (Karen) Smith of Baroda; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brother Bill (Mickie) Garrett of Michigan. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, several sisters and a brother. Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, where her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday led by Pastor Jamie Saylor of Keeler Church of God. She will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Cemetery, Niles. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in care of Wesley.
