Niles Township Supervisor Jim Kidwell said he is accepting bids from companies to make improvements to sidewalks in and around Fulkerson Park in Niles Township.

“We have received several calls recently about the sidewalks,” he said at Monday’s township board meeting. “Now in the summer time, especially, kids are out playing… Kids are getting hurt.”

Large bumps in the sidewalk, some as high as two feet, are being used as ramps by children on bikes.

“They are that high,” Kidwell said. “So we need to take care of some of the bad spots.”

Kidwell said the township has metro money reserved for situations like these, funds received from companies that are allowed to run cable lines through the township. So the sidewalk improvements will not be coming from tax payer money.
