The Niles Public Library added to the local holiday cheer on Monday night by providing the public with a free Christmas movie viewing.
Campbell said that the library recently purchased an umbrella license so that they could show movies.
On three consecutive Mondays in December, the library had a special viewing of three different film versions of Charles Dickens' timeless holiday tale, "A Christmas Carol."
The movies were shown in the Rotunda area of the library on a projection screen surrounded by an arrangement of chairs. The library also provided an assortment of complimentary cookies.
On Dec. 8, they showed the musical version that focuses on the character of Scrooge.
On Dec. 15, it was the Hollywood version featuring a star studded cast that brings the classic story to life.
Monday night, it was "The Muppet Christmas Carol," in which Jim Henson's Muppets put their own spin on Dickens' book.
Campbell said this was the first time that the library has tried this.
The Niles Public library will be closing today from noon to 2 p.m. for the Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays.
The library will have special 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours on Jan. 31 and will be closed for New Year's Day.
