The Niles City Council held their final meeting of 2003 on Monday night.
Clocking in at approximately 10 minutes, members of the public were rumbling that last night's meeting may have finished in a record time.
After roll call, the council members approved the consent agenda, which included the hiring of Peerless-Midwest, Inc. of Mishawaka, Ind. to chemically clean the Fort Street and Airport well at an estimated cost of $25,380.
The consent agenda also included approving a request to provide office space at no cost in the Niles District Library for the non-profit organization, Family Literacy Network.
The council members went on to approve five temporary easement agreements with the building owners of 115, 209, 211, 215 and 217 East Main Street.
They also approved of entering into an intercreditor agreement between the City of Niles, Infonit, LLC of Niles and Working Capital Company, Inc. of California.
The re-appointment of Sally Ginter to the Niles District Library Board of Trustees was passed and is effective from Jan. 1, 2004 to Dec. 31, 2008.
The meeting ended with wishes of happy holidays from the council members and a congratulations from the mayor to the police department on how they effectively handled Sunday night's hostage situation.
