Niles City Police are investigaing an armed robbery that took place over the weekend at the Admiral Oil Gas Station on Chicago Road.

According to Cpt. Jim Millin, at approximately 3:08 a.m. police reported to the gas staion where they were told a suspect being described as a black male entered the gas station and displayed a handgun, demanding the clerk to hand over all cash inside the station’s register.

“Unfortunately,” Millin said, “typically we find that during the holidays we see an increase (in armed robberies).”

Millin said things had been relatively quiet in the number of incidents seen this season, but Thursday’s incident was a reminder for police and the public.

Though police will not disclose the exact amount of cash taken, what’s being described as a “small amount of cash” was given to the suspect who then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is being described as a black male, 25-30 years old, light in complexion, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing a thick black jacket and a black hooded sweatshirt.

No one was reported injured during the incident, but police are asking anyone with information to contact the Detective Bureau at 683-0404.
