Niles basketball teams finding early success

The Ring Lardner eighth grade Gold basketball team defeated John Young Tuesday afternoon 35-26.

The Vikings (2-3) got 11 points, four steals and five assists from Kyle Solloway, while Mason Finley finished with six points and six rebounds.

Niles also got six rebounds from Kale Pollard and four steals from Nick Knoll.

The Gold team suffered a 49-29 setback at the hands of Benton Harbor on Monday afternoon, its third of a four game stretch.

Isaiah Jefferies and Dwaye West both had five points, while Solloway had five assists, Finley six rebounds and Knoll and Pollard with three steals.

The Ring Lardner Blue team edged John Young 42-33 victory.

Jamal Hinds led a balanced offensive attack for the Vikings with nine points. Niles also got eight points from Doug Freeman and seven points from Tate Rudlaff.

Tate Brawley and Greg Jones both finished with five points and Dustin Taggart four.
The Blue team opened its season Monday afternoon with a convincing 50-28 win over Benton Harbor.

Hinds led all scorers with 16 points.

Freeman had seven points off the bench, while Brawley also had seven points.

Rudlaff added six points. Jones and Taggart chipped in with four points each.

Seventh grade
The Ring Lardner seventh grade Blue team is now 2-0 after defeating John Young on Tuesday, 43-41.

David Kennedy had a triple-double for the Vikings with 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Also playing well offensively were Samuel Hill, Alvin Kyles and Sammy Rodts. Ray Glenn led the team with four assists.

The seventh grade opened its season with a 27-26 win over Benton Harbor on Monday.
Glenn had four assists for the Vikings, who also got eight steal apiece from Sean Craig and Gabe Stokes.

Dalton Raymond’s 3-pointer in the fourth quarter gave Niles its first lead of the contest.
