Alene Cavanaugh, 87, of Indianapolis, Ind., and formerly of Niles, died at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at University Heights Nursing Home, Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Salvation Army, Niles, with Captain William Walters of the Salvation Army, Niles and Major Richard Amick of Divisional Commander, Salvation Army of Indiana, officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
She was born on March 25, 1921, in Niles, to Ira Regenos and Elizabeth Lauer Regenos.
She attended Niles schools and lived here until 1979.
She was a former employee of Midwest Metal Products in Niles.
She was a lifetime member and former officer of the Salvation Army. Her greatest joy was caring for her children and grandchildren.
On Aug. 21, 1948, in Niles, she married Alvin E. Cavanaugh, who died on July 11, 1956.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Elmer and Paul Regenos and two sisters, Maude Smith and Gladys Walls.
Surviving family include a son, Alvin I. (Nancy) Cavanaugh of Niles; two daughters, Patricia (Dale) McCollum of Elkhart, Ind. and Salvation Army Major Susan (S.A. Major Richard) Hartman of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
