WHITE PIGEON -- The Dowagiac junior varsity basketball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 49-35 win over White Pigeon Tuesday.
The Chieftains (1-5) led 15-3 after one period of play and 25-17 at the intermission of the consolation contest of the Sturgis Bank and Trust Holiday Basketball Classic.
White Pigeon cut the Chieftains' lead to 34-29 after three quarters of play, however, Dowagiac outscored the Chiefs, 15-6 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Jason Manley led Dowagiac with 13 points and six rebounds.
The Chieftains also got 10 points and nine rebounds from Ken Franz, while Michael DeRose aded nine points and 10 rebounds.
Brian Edgerly contributed seven points.
