Equestrian practice begins Aug. 11

The Dowagiac Equestrian Team will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 11 at the Ausra Stables on Yaw Street beginning at 6 p.m.
Those riders, grades 9-12, in the Dowagiac School District, are eligible to compete on the team. Dowagiac must submit its final roster of riders by Aug. 25.
Cost is $50 per rider. A rider must have his or her own horse with a negative Coggins test. Show dates are Sept. 20-21 at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds in Hartford and Sept. 28 at the Buchanan Westerners.

Fall sports practice began this morning when the golf team gathers at Hampshire Country Club.
Golf coach Van Johnson had set 7:30 a.m. for the squad's first practice session at Hampshire. Golfers are required to have a physical before they will be allowed to practice.
Dowagiac varsity soccer coach Mike Williams has announced that tryouts will be held beginning on Monday, Aug. 11 at 9 a.m..
Soccer tryouts will continue through Aug. 15.
Tryouts will be held at Dowagiac Union High School from 9 to 11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. daily.
Fall sports officially get under way on Tuesday when the Dowagiac varsity golf team hits the links at the Centreville Invitational.
First-year girls' tennis coach Chuck Rubino has announced that practices will be held beginning Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 at the Dowagiac Union High School tennis courts.
Rubino reminded players that they must have a physical before they can participate. He also reminded players to bring water.
Dowagiac football coach Mike Stanger has announced that lockers and equipment will be handed out on Monday.
The varsity and junior varsity players will be issued lockers and equipment from 9 to 11 a.m. The freshmen players are scheduled to come in from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Practices will be held at 2:45 p.m. and again at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
Basketball coach Joe Spitale has announced that practice will be held on Monday for the junior varsity and varsity from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and again at 3-5 p.m.
The freshmen squad will practice from 5-7 p.m. on Monday. On Tuesday the varsity and junior varsity will practice from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and again at 5-7 p.m. The freshmen squad will practice from 3-5 p.m.
Dowagiac's cross country teams under the direction of veteran coach Ken Jordan will practice beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday at Southwestern Michigan College.
Jordan will meet with those needing a ride to the college at Dowagiac Union High School at 9:45 a.m.
