The weather certainly played a factor in the Wolverine Conference Jamboree at Hampshire Country Club.

In fact, the wind may have cost host Dowagiac a shot at winning the jamboree.

The Chieftains’ Jordan Juday, who is Dowagiac’s No. 1 golfer and is currently in the top 10 in stroke average in the league, had to withdraw when the wind blew sand into his face in a trap.

Juday, who was wearing contacts, had trouble getting the sand out of his eyes and off his contacts. After spending several minutes trying to correct the situation and then teeing off on No. 1, he decided he could not see well enough to continue the round.

Dowagiac coach Van Johnson pulled Juday from the course before he completed the round so it would not count against his stroke average. Each player is allowed to throw out one jamboree score during league play.

Otsego pulled out a one-stroke victory over Vicksburg, 170-171. The Chieftains finished third with a 176.

Luke Tindall of Vicksburg earned medalist honors as he managed the course and the elements to shoot 39.

Cody Fairleigh led Dowagiac with a 41.

The Wolverine Conference is back in action Thursday at Lake Doster in Plainwell.

The Dowagiac JV golf team also finished third at the Wolverine Conference Jamboree held at the Dowagiac Elks Club Monday.

Three Rivers took first with a time score of 203, while Vicksburg was second at 205 and the Chieftains third at 215.

Dowagiac’s Jeremiah Guernsey did earn medalist honors with his 47.

The Chieftains also got a 54 from Ross Tidey, a pair of 57s from Nick Lindemulder and Adrian Leversen, as well as a 61 from Mike Luthringer.

Dowagiac is back in action Tuesday against Watervliet at Paw Paw Lake Golf Club.
