Berrien Springs man arrested for parole violation

A Berrien Springs man was arrested after walking down the street the morning of Nov. 25 while carrying a large, flat-screen TV, which was reportedly stolen from a residence he was moving from.

He also is accused of violating probation after being tested for consumption of  alcohol.

According to the Berrien Springs Oronoko Police Department, while on patrol, Officer Ryan Venno spotted the subject near the intersection of South Cass and West Ferry streets.

The subject was recognized by Venno as Corry Wysinger, whom he knew was on parole.
Wysinger tested positive for alcohol. When contacted, the Michigan Department of Corrections requested Wysinger be placed under arrest for a parole violation.

Further investigation revealed the television Wysinger was carrying belonged to the residence at 201 S. Main St., Berrien Springs, where Wysinger and several other adults live.

Also, it was learned that two new vacuum cleaners from the South Main home had been taken to the residence where Wysinger was moving.

The owner of the house at 201 S. Main St., Grace Marandi, said the television and vacuums were hers and had been removed from her house without permission.

Wysinger was lodged at the Berrien County Jail for the parole violation and the prosecutor charged him with larceny from a building.

Staff worker charged in  alleged assault

A staff worker is charged in an alleged assault at a licensed adult foster care home in Oronoko Township Saturday.

According to the Berrien Springs Oronoko Police Department, Officer Dave Scholten responded to a belated report of an assault and robbery that took place the night before upon a resident of an adult foster care home by a staff worker at the home, Donald Wauran.

The investigation revealed Wauran and AFC resident had gotten into an argument that turned into an assault upon resident over Wauran wanting to borrow money.

The resident did report a quantity of cash had been taken from her purse and the physical assault took place as she tried to stop Wauran from taking the money from her purse.

No other staff members were working at that time, and the resident went to sleep after the incident. The resident suffered bruising, which was noticed the next morning by the on-duty staff member, who called AFC home management.

Wauran was charged with vulnerable adult abuse in the third degree, domestic violence and unarmed robbery.

Pizza deliverman reports assault

A Pizza Hut delivery person was reportedly assaulted after making a delivery to the campus of Andrews University the evening of Nov. 29.

According to the Berrien Springs Oronoko Police Department, the department received a call of an alleged armed robbery at the college.

When Officer Russ Robbins arrived at the Pizza Hut, he learned from delivery person Matthew Bacon of Berrien Springs that it was not an armed robbery but alleged assault.

Robbins said Bacon made a delivery to Burman Hall and was about to exit the dorm when two white male subjects approached him in the building foyer and confronted him. This turned into an altercation, where some sort of metal object was presented then dropped by one of the suspects. It is unknown what that metal object was as it was picked up by one of the suspects, who ran out of the building, and Bacon returned to Pizza Hut.

There were no injuries, and nothing was taken during this incident.

The investigation is continuing; no arrests have been made.
