Bowl for the Cure still has spots

The Niles Four Flags United States Bowling Congress will host the Sixth Annual Bowl for the Cure Saturday.

This fun-filled day of bowling, prizes, raffles and auctions is being held at Joey Armadillo’s Bowling Center.  The intent of this event is to help “Strike Out Breast Cancer.”

All money raised will be donated to the Southwestern Michigan Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Cure for prevention and research in southwest Michigan.

In 2011 the event raised $11,400 and event chairperson Chris Marlin said that “75 percent of those funds stayed in our local communities to fund mammograms for under-insured people. This money is helping to save local lives.”

The remaining 25 percent was used at the national Komen for the Cure Foundation for research.

Pre-registration has almost 300 bowlers signed up to participate in the event that last year saw 265.

“This is the most bowlers we have ever had signed up, we already have taken in $7,000 and we feel confident we can hit our goal of $11,500,” Marlin said.

The second shift, which begins at 3 p.m. is full, but walk-ins are welcome for the 11 a.m. first shift.  Contact Marlin at 684-5482 for more details.

Live auctions and silent auctions will be held during each shift along with raffles and miscellaneous prizes.  Dance in the aisles with our DJ music provided by Erika Rene DJ Entertainment.

The association will gladly accept walk-in and in-kind donations throughout the day.  Even if you aren’t a bowler, come out and support a great event raising money for a cause that hits nearly everyone.
