Dear Editor,

This letter is in strong support of Berrien County Treasurer Shelly Weich in her bid for re-election. No other candidate has the experience and background for this important  position.

Shelly Weich has served with distinction in the Treasurer’s office for the last 17 years. She  was hired in 2007 for an important project. That project involved identifying non homestead property owners trying to game the system and be taxed at the lower homestead rate. The result? Millions of dollars in revenue for Berrien County school systems. Shelly shows attention to detail and the determination to get the job done in everything she does. That led to her later becoming the Chief Deputy Treasurer of the  county where she served for 10 years, before being appointed Treasurer in 2020 and  winning the election in the same year.

In many ways, the Treasurer’s position acts as the banker for Berrien County. Shelly’s  nearly two decades of service make her the best person for the job. She has helped hundreds of residents stay in their homes by putting together payment plans so taxes can get paid, and people can keep their most important asset. With state laws changing every year, now is not the time to have an inexperienced person in such a very important role. Shelly has done a great job working with local treasurers and has been a leader among  treasurers in Michigan.

Speaking as your local community treasurers for Niles Charter Township and Bertrand  Charter Township, both of us, Jim Ringler and Dave Kuhn, enthusiastically support her  candidacy. We hope you will too. Let’s re-elect Shelly Weich for Berrien County Treasurer in the August 6th Republican Primary.

Jim Ringler,

Treasurer, Niles Charter Township

Dave Kuhn

Treasurer, Bertrand Charter Township
