NILES — As the 2023-24 sports season is wrapping up, it is time for athletes to start looking forward to the start of a new year in the fall.

The first step in that process is making sure they have a sports physical before practice begins in August.

Numerous schools have already announced their schedule for physicals, including Niles, Cassopolis and Dowagiac.

Niles Physicals

Viking athletes may receive a sports physical from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on either July 24 or Aug. 14.

Physicals will be given at Niles High School. Athletes are asked to enter through the student parking lot doors. Cost of the physical is $60 for both high school and middle school students. It includes the physical and a student sports pass to all home and away games.

Forms may be downloaded from nilesvikings.bigteams.com. Athletes are asked to have the forms filled out before their physical.

Cassopolis Physicals

Ranger athletes are reminded that they must have a sports physical on file before the first game of practice.

Forms may be downloaded from the district’s website at https://cassopolis.ss6.sharpschool.com/home

Dowagiac Physicals

Chieftain athletes may get a physical from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 20, at Borgess Lee Pediatrics (second flor).

Physicals are available for students entering grades sixth through 12th.  The cost is $15.

All athletes must have a form on file before participating in Michigan High School Athletic Association-sponsored sports.

A parent or legal guardian must be present for the physical.
