DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Fire Department invited the community out to be a part of history Friday afternoon.

The DFD hosted an open house and beam signing Friday at the site of the new fire department facility currently under construction at 29157 Jessup Dr. Community members were able to view the progress of the facility and sign their name on a large red support beam that will be visible at the new station.

“Our fire department is based around community events and we just wanted to bring the community out here, show them what we’re doing, how the progress of the building is coming and just explain to them how thankful we really are to get this new facility up and running for the citizens and the community of Dowagiac,” said DFD Chief Anthony Stewart.

The new facility will have five bays for fire department vehicles and equipment, a space for indoor training, an outdoor training area, a dedicated area for firefighters to decontaminate gear and more. Frederick Construction is serving as construction manager on the project.
