Roundup: Eddies top Vikings; Bucks split with Lancers

NILES — Visiting Edwardsburg scored 11 runs on 14 hits in defeating Niles 11-2 in the final tune up for both teams before the postseason begins Tuesday.

The Eddies (22-11) broke open a close game with three runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh. Niles trailed Edwardsburg 4-2 heading into the sixth.

Victoria Pulling went the distance, allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts to pick up the victory.

The Eddies’ offense was led by Sydney Klaer and Kourtney Zarycki, both of whom were 3-for-4. Klaer doubled, while Zarycki homered and drove in three runs.

Ella Zache, Lani Hardin and Lexi Schimpa all had two hits. Zache and Schimpa both homered as they combined for six RBIs.

Morgan Clanton took the loss for Niles.

The Vikings (11-25) had five hits, led by Claire Shadix and Kloe Kiggins, who both doubled.

 

Buchanan at Lakeshore

Buchanan will head into the postseason struggling a bit as the Bucks have lost three of their final five regular-season games.

Buchanan split a pair of games with Lakeshore in Stevensville Friday.

Lakeshore blanked the Bucks 5-0 in the opener, but Buchanan bounced back to win the nightcap 11-8.

In the first game, the Lancers held the Bucks to just three hits.

Caitlin Horvath had two of those hits, while Hannah Herman doubled.

Hailee Kara suffered the loss as she allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

In the second game, a five-run fifth inning allowed Buchanan to pull away from Lakeshore, which was trailing 6-3 at the time.

The Bucks (29-5) banged out 17 hits. Camille Lozmack and Bailey Trail both had four hits. Lozmack had a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Trail also had an RBI.

Buchanan got two hits from Aspen Berry, who homered twice and drove in four runs, Horvath, Herman and Cameron Carlson. Keegan May and Carlson both doubled.
