Vikings, Eddies bring home individual Wolverine conference championships

STURGIS — Host Sturgis swept the Wolverine Conference track and field titles Friday.

The Trojan boys track team scored 139.5 points, while Plainwell was the runner-up with 103 points. Edwardsburg finished third with 101 points and Niles fifth with 73.5 points.

The Sturgis girls track team scored a whopping 163.5 points to easily defeat second-place Otsego, which finished with 108 points. Edwardsburg placed sixth with 47.5 points and Niles seventh with 43 points.

The Vikings and Eddies both had multiple winners at the meet.

Niles’ Aydan Mccarey won both the 400- and 110-meter high hurdles. He posted a time of 50.80 in the 400 and 15.00 in the hurdles.

Edwardsburg’s Laron Fessenden won both the shot put and discus with throws of 49-8 and 162-4, respectively.

The Eddies also won the 1,600-meter relay with the team of Kya Bryant, Mobius Stubblefield, Jack Bell and Dylan Leep, which ran a time of 3:33.11.

For the Viking girl team, Izabel Hoskin won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.90, while Anastasia Kopczynski won the long jump with a leap of 16-2.

Sarah Pippin won the high jump with a height of 5-6.
