Roundup: Niles beats crosstown rival Bobcats; Chieftains blanked and Eddies split

NILES — Crosstown rivals Niles and Brandywine squared off on the tennis court Monday with the Vikings defeating the Bobcats 5-3 in a non-conference match.

Niles won three out of the four singles flights, and then picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 doubles to knock off the longtime state powerhouse Bobcats.

Winning in singles for the Vikings were Caelyn Hinds at No. 1 singles, Jaida Gear at No. 3 singles and Mia Abarca at No. 4 singles.

Hinds defeated Abagail Solloway 6-1 and 6-3, Gear defeated Aleyna Vollman 6-3, 3-6 and 6-0, while Abarca defeated Aubree Murray 5-7, 6-2 and 6-3.

In doubles, Addison Vandalson and Cheyenne Small defeated Louisa Peterson and Karleigh Byrd 6-4 and 7-5 at No. 3 doubles, while Brooklyn Hemminger and Azlynne Ingle defeated the Bobcats’ Chelsy Olson and Chanel Partee 6-0 and 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

 

Our Lady of the Laka/Bridgman at Dowagiac

Our Lady of the Lake and Bridgman blanked Dowagiac 8-0 in a make-up match.

The most competitive matches came at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Abby Mitchell and Peytan Adams defeated the Chieftains’ Natasha Griggs and Jenna White 6-2 and 7-5, while Abbie King and Abigail Wasnik defeated Dowagiac’s Ariels Peters and Olivia Donoho 6-3 and 6-4.

 

Edwardsburg at Lakeshore

The visiting Eddie and Lancers played to a 4-4 tie Monday.

Julia Jones, Julia Lewis and Erin Letter were all winners in singles competition.

Libby Freudenburg and Olivia Closson won at No. 4 doubles to force the deadlock.
