SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP — The Silver Creek Township Board Of Trustees met for their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, April 10.

It was announced that preliminary numbers for the year-end would be available for council review at the regular May meeting. The fire board reported that the department will be conducting dive training May 4 on Indian Lake. During the police report, Undersheriff Roach reminded all present to drive with care when sharing the road with farm equipment. This is in light of the recent deadly tractor accident in the township.

The council discussed expenses regarding the State of Michigan Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Program contract. The discussion centered on the division of expenses and revenue between the township and Cass County. Clerk Jess Honn expressed concern over the amount of permit revenue collected by the county while the township was proposed to pay 80% of the expenses.

Trustee Mike Glynn expressed that county taxes should be covering the expenses instead of those from Silver Creek Township. Treasurer Lorri Behnke suggested that the building permit revenue would offset the costs of the program. With no financial details provided and discussions continuing back and forth, it was determined that additional information was needed to make a decision.

Several motions were made and passed unanimously. Among them was Ordinance 24-01, and amendment to Silver Creek Township Zoning Ordinance & Map and the approval of policies on Reimbursement and Sexual Harassment. A motion was also approved to accept a quote for additional training for the Treasurer’s Department.

The next regular meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 8 at the Township Hall.
