Roundup: Eddies sweep Bucks; Chieftains blanked by Marcellus

BUCHANAN — Visiting Edwardsburg improved its record to 2-1 with a sweep of Buchanan in non-conference baseball Wednesday.

The Eddies improved to 2-1 with wins of 13-3 and 8-2 over the Bucks, who fall 3-3 on the season.

In the opening game, Edwardsburg used a six-run opening inning to break the game open early. The Eddies led 9-0 before Buchanan scored three times in the bottom half of the third inning.

That would be as close as the Bucks would get.

The Eddies had seven hits in the opening game, including a double by Zac Zache. Ari Johnson had a double for the Bucks, who had three hits against Edwardsburg pitcher Payton Bookwalter (winner) and Tyler Leak.

Kyle Lewis-Schadler took the loss for Buchanan.

In the nightcap, A sixth-run fifth inning gave Edwardsburg the victory in the nightcap, which was shortened by darkness.

The Eddies had eight hits, led by doubles from Joe Lundgren and Bookwalter. Lucas Zeiger ahd a double or the Bucks, who finished with six hits.

Brody Schrimpa picked up the victory. Brayden Fischer worked the fifth inning for Edwardsburg.

Dean Robers started and took the loss for Buchanan.

 

Marcellus 3, Dowagiac

The Chieftains are still searching for their first win of the season as visiting Marcellus blanked Dowagiac 3-0 in non-conference play.

The Chieftains (0-4) had five hits in the contest. Mason Maggert and Lamone Moore both had two hits for Dowagiac.

Riley McCafferty took the loss on the hill for the Chieftains.
