Mary “Frances” Young Burton, 97, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, in Niles, Michigan.
Frances was born on April 16, 1926, in Berwick, Illinois to the late Lewis Valentine Ingram and Mary Opal (Andrews) Ingram.
Along with her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Young; second husband, Carl Burton; step-daughter, Rose Clemans; brothers, Albert Ingram, James Ingram, and Kenneth Ingram, and sisters, Beverly Ingram and Martha Tannehill.
Left to cherish the memory of Frances are her daughters, Janice Kiper, Karen Waterhouse, Martha (Tom) Vicari, and Rachel Hattenbach; step-son, Ray Burton; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
As a retired secretary from the Niles School System, Frances dedicated herself to enriching the lives of others, volunteering countless hours at the local hospital and spreading warmth by crocheting hats for newborn babies. An avid reader, Frances found solace in the pages of countless books, and she embraced the creative art of crocheting with passion.
Frances’ enthusiasm for life was infectious; she cherished watching American Ninja Warrior and rooting for the Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team. Together with her devoted husband, Carl, she ventured to various destinations, savoring the joys of traveling. Her leadership shone as a 4-H Leader and as a Pathfinder Leader in the Niles Westside Adventist Church, where she was a long-standing member. Frances’ unwavering faith and devotion profoundly influenced her daughters, whom she loved dearly and for whom she strove to provide a Christian education. Frances’ legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will forever be treasured by all who knew her.
Frances’ family would like to thank all the staff at Woodland Terrace for their kindness and compassion during her stay there.
Visitation for Frances will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a Funeral Service to be held at 11 a.m., at Brown Funeral Home, 521 East Main St. Niles, MI 49120. Burial will immediately follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, 61453 M-51, Niles, MI 49120.
