Eddies’ Sousley wins state title; Buchanan’s Bartley fourth

BUCHANAN — Edwardsburg finished eighth and Buchanan tied for 17th at the Michigan High School Powerlifting state meet hosted by Lake Orion High School earlier this month.

Troy Athens won the women’s state championship with 73 points, while Lake Orion was the runner-up with 41 points.

Edwardsburg finished with 20 points and Buchanan 12 points.

Winning a state championship for the Eddies was Delaney Sousley, who finished with a total of 785 pounds lifted. Sousley had a total squat of 310, a bench of 150 and a dead lift of 325 in the 105-pound division.

Buchanan’s Faith Bartley finished fourth in the 155-pound division with a squat of 270, a bench press of 130 and a deadlift of 330 for a total lift of 730 pounds.

The Bucks’ Brooke Strefling placed sixth in the 181-pound division with a squat of 235, a bench press of 130 and a deadlift of 290 for a total lift of 655 pounds.

Edwardsburg’s Jenna Reese was sixth in the 242-pound division with a squat of 305, a bench press of 110 and a deadlift of 300 for a total weight of 715 pounds. Adeline Garcia was eighth in the showmanship division with a total weight lifted of 745 pounds.

 

JV State Meet

Buchanan’s Lillian Wegener competed in the JV State Meet hosted by Croswell-Lexington High School March 2.

Wegener had a squat of 165, a bench press of 85 and a deadlift of 200 pounds.

Dowagiac’s Elena Murray also competed. She finished with a squat of 145, a bench press of 60 and a deadlift of 200 pounds.
