Edwardsburg boys rebound to top Bulldogs; girls fall to Vicksburg

EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg boys basketball bounced back from its loss at Niles Wednesday night to defeat visiting Vicksburg 72-56 in Wolverine Conference action Friday night.

The Bulldogs defeated the Eddies 47-35 in the girls basketball contest as Vicksburg remained in first place in the league.

 

Boys Basketball

Vicksburg kept the game close for one half as its trailed Edwardsburg 16-12 after the opening quarter, but then outscored the Eddies 21-13 in the second to take a 33-29 lead at halftime.

Edwardsburg (6-4, 6-2 Wolverine) regrouped during the intermission and exploded for 43 points in the second half while holding the Bulldogs to 23 points.

The Eddies led 53-41 after three quarters.

Brody Schimpa scored a game-high 24 points to lead Edwardsburg past the Bulldogs. Edwardsburg also got 12 points from Will Moore and 10 points from Zeke Pegura.

Jaxson Wilson had 14 points for Vicksburg. Carter Brown finished with 13 points.

The Eddies return to the court Jan. 26 as it heads to Plainwell for a Wolverine Conference contest.

 

Girls Basketball

The Bulldogs outscored the Eddies 41-31 over the final three quarters to improve to 6-1 in conference play and 9-1 overall.

Edwardsburg (6-6, 4-3 Wolverine) kept it close for the first eight minutes as it trailed just 6-4.

Vicksburg opened up a 20-13 halftime advantage, but were outscored 17-12 in the third quarter as Edwardsburg cut the lead back to two points, 32-30.

The Bulldogs held Edwardsburg to five points in the final eight minutes, while scoring 12 points to earn the victory.

Shelby Laubach led the Eddies with 13 points. Maddie Pobuda added eight points.

Makayla Allen had a game-high 16 points to pace Vicksburg. Kendra Cooley also reached double figures with 12 points.

Edwardsburg hits the road Jan. 26 to take on Plainwell.
