EDWARDSBURG — Host Edwardsburg held on to its share of second place in the Wolverine Conference boys basketball standings with a 64-59 win over Paw Paw Tuesday night.

The victory set up a showdown with Niles on the road Wednesday in a makeup game from last week.

After a tight first half, which saw the two teams tied at 22-22 at the intermission, the Eddies (5-3, 5-1 Wolverine) outscored the Red Wolves 24-12 in the third quarter to open up a 46-34 advantage.

Edwardsburg was unable to maintain that momentum in the fourth quarter as Paw Paw (3-7, 2-4) came storming back to try and pull off the upset.

Despite outscoring the Eddies 25-18 in the final eight minutes of play, the Red Wolves were unable to make up the early deficit.

Brody Schimpa had 20 points to lead Edwardsburg, which also got 18 points from Matt Anders and eight points from Zeke Pegura.

Truman Brennan had a game-high 23 points for Paw Paw. He was the only player to reach double figures for the Red Wolves.
