Marilyn J. Coquillard, 96, a beacon of warmth and selflessness, peacefully passed away on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2023, at the age of 96. Born on July 15, 1927, in Niles, Michigan, to Otis K. and Gladys Mae (Teske) Brockway, Marilyn was a lifelong resident of her beloved hometown where she also drew her last breath surrounded by the love of her family.
Marilyn’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family and community. As a retired clerk for the Berrien County District Court, she served her community with integrity and kindness. Her professional demeanor and commitment to service were hallmarks of her career, but it was her radiant personality that left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and nurturing her soul. Marilyn’s family was her most cherished accomplishment, and she poured her love into every interaction with her children, grandchildren, and extended relatives. She was the epitome of a matriarch, providing comfort, wisdom, and joy to her family’s lives.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, Barbara Mitchell and Marjorie Houk; and her grandson, Joshua Moore. Marilyn’s love and legacy live on through her children: David Coquillard of Niles, William “Bill” (Sue) Coquillard of Niles, Mary Lynn (David) Moore of Virginia Beach, Virginia, James “Jim” Coquillard of South Bend, Edward (Dawn) Coquillard of Ocala, Florida, and Kenneth (Betty Rose) Coquillard of Apache Junction, Arizona. Her ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren will continue to be inspired by her life and cherish the memories they made together.
Marilyn’s life was one of joyous celebration and spirited presence. Those who knew her were touched by her loving nature and the selfless way she approached every day. Her laughter was infectious, her counsel was sought after, and her ability to uplift the hearts of those around her was unparalleled. She had an innate talent for making everyone feel special and valued, a trait that endeared her to many.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with an interment to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Indiana.
