The Chieftains improved to 4-1 with the win over Coloma.

Dowagiac scored the first 23 points of the game and never looked back. The Chieftains led 14-0 after one quarter and 23-0 before the Comets (2-4) finally scored in second quarter.

Dowagiac led 27-8 at halftime.

Things did not get better for Coloma in the second half as the Dowagiac defense continued to shine as it held the Comets to 10 points.

“Our defensive intensity was really nice tonight,” said Dowagiac Coach Jason Turner. “We had a great defensive game.”

Marlie Carpenter led Dowagiac with 16 points, while Maggie Weller and Olivia Gadde both finished with eight points. Rebecca Guernsey and Audrey Johnson added seven and six points, respectively.

“Marlie had a fantastic game offensively,” Turner said. “We pushed the ball up the court really well tonight. Audrey played great defense at the top of our zone again. Maggie dished the ball off really well tonight which was nice to see the others step up and finish those shots.”

Dowagiac will return to action following the Christmas break when it hosts Watervliet in a non-conference contest on Jan. 5.
