Zarycki scores 16 as Broncos fall to Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Former Edwardsburg standout Kaitlyn Zarycki had a team-high 16 points in Western Michigan University’s 84-47 loss to host Notre Dame at the Purcell Pavilion Thursday night.

The Fighting Irish (9-1) wrapped up their non-conference campaign with the win over the Broncos, who drop to 5-5 on the season.

Hannah Hidalgo scored a game-high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 10 assists. She also finished the night with five steals.

Western Michigan got off to a quick start against Notre Dame as it grabbed a 9-4 lead. The Fighting Irish countered with an 8-0 run and 24-13 after the opening quarter. It was all Notre Dame from there.

The Fighting Irish outscored the Broncos 60-34 over the final three quarters.

Zarycki finished the night 7-of-16 from the field and 2-for-2 at free throw line. She also had three assists and a pair of rebounds in nearly 29 minutes of play.

Besides Hidalgo, Notre Dame also got 17 points from Anna DeWolfe and 15 points and eight rebounds from Maddy Westbeld.
