Hood wins 300th game as Brandywine sweeps rival Buchanan

BUCHANAN — The visiting Brandywine girls and boys basketball teams made a clean sweep of host Buchanan Friday night.
The girls beat the Bucks 38-27 and the boys earned a 73-41 victory in Lakeland Conference play.
In the girls game, the Bobcats jumped out to a 11-2 lead in the first quarter and went into halftime with a 23-15 lead. The Bobcats led by as many as 14 points in the game.
Ellie Knapp led Brandywine with 13 points and Adeline Gill had eight points while Adelyn Drotoz and Kadence Brumitt each added five. Miley Young scored four and Ireland Prenkert had three.
For Buchanan, Alyssa Carson scored 11 points and LaBria Austin had eight points while Katie Ailes and Hannah Herman added five and three points respectively.
The win was Josh Hood’s 300th as Brandywine head coach.
In the boys game, the Bobcats were able to force Bucks turnovers that led to easy points on offense. Brandywine led 38-19 at halftime and by as many as 38 in the game.
Nylen Goins led Brandywine with 17 points and Jaremiah Palmer had 16 Byron Linley added 10. Jamier Palmer tallied seven, Robert Whiting six, Jaytee Smith five and Brock Dye four. Ryder Richard and Will Hubbard scored three and one point respectively.
For Buchanan, Logan Wiggins tallied 15 and Karmine Brown scored 10 and Matt Trigg four. Nico Finn and Will Carson scored three apiece and Preston Payne, Jake Franklin and Jamari Brown added two points each.
Brandywine girls move to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Lakeland Conference play. Next up for the Bobcats is Blissfield Wednesday, Dec. 27 in the Michigan Hardwood Classic at Romulus. Buchanan falls to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Lakeland and hopes to rebound Tuesday against Edwardsburg.
On the boys side, the Bobcats move to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Lakeland. Their next game is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Buffalo. Buchanan falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in Lakeland play. Next up for the Bucks is River Valley at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
