OTSEGO — In a battle of Wolverine Conference undefeated teams, host Otsego got the best of Edwardsburg 54-30 Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (3-1, 3-0 Wolverine) jumped out to a 15-2 lead on the Eddies (2-2, 2-1 Wolverine) and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way.

“Tough night for the Lady Eddies,” said first-year Edwardsburg Coach Tracey Bloodworth. “We seemed out of sync and played a step slow. Otsego’s kids really attacked us and just outplayed us on both ends of the floor tonight.”

Otsego was able to maintain its comfortable advantage in the second quarter, taking a 32-18 lead to the locker room at the intermission.

The Bulldogs outscored the Eddies 22-12 in the second half.

“We have to do a better job of being disciplined and executing our press breaker and our offense,” Bloodworth said. “Otsego beat us to almost every loose ball and they crashed the boards on a mission. I give them a lot of credit. They did all the little things right, especially on the defensive end and it created a lull in our offense that made us more impatient.”

Kourtney Zarycki led Edwardsburg with 11 points. She was the only player to reach double figures for the Eddies. Chloe Baker added five points.

Hannah Fitzpatrick had a game-high 14 points to lead the Bulldogs, who also got 13 points from Aly Aldrich and 12 points from Brooke Smalldon.

Edwardsburg is back to work Saturday as it faces Hillcrest (Illinois) at the Southwestern Michigan College Tri-State Holiday Classic.
