Roundup: Bucks win first game; Eddies fall for first time

BUCHANAN — Host Buchanan kicked off its defense of its Lakeland Conference girls basketball championship with a 60-21 victory over Benton Harbor.

In non-conference action, Edwardsburg was defeated by host South Bend Adams 63-50 on Saturday.

The Bucks rebounded from their season-opening loss to Hamilton by outscoring the Tigers 27-10 in the opening half.

Buchanan (1-1, 1-0 Lakeland) exploded for 20 points in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout. The Bucks outscored Benton Harbor (1-1, 0-1 Lakeland) 13-6 in the final eight minutes of play.

LaBria Austin had a game-high 19 points to lead Buchanan, which also got 18 points from Katie Ailes and 10 points from Alyssa Carson.

The Bucks are back in action Monday night as it travels to Vicksburg for a non-conference contest.

 

Edwardsburg at Adams

Adams outscored the Eddies 33-26 in the second half to pull away from Edwardsburg.

South Bend (4-6) led 15-14 after one quarter and 29-24 at halftime.

A 21-point third quarter allowed Adams to break the game open.

Maddie Pobuda and Chloe Baker both had 11 points for the Eddies, who lose their first game of the season and are now 3-1 overall.

Marigrace Foster had 14 points to lead four Adams players in double figures.

Edwardsburg returns to the hardwood Tuesday night when it hosts Paw Paw in a Wolverine Conference contest.
