EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg Village Council met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 20 at Edwardsburg Village Hall.

Village Council President Dennis Peak reported that the high school civics class has an interest in helping paint fire hydrants around the village as a service to the community. Leaf pick up is still ongoing, with nearly 500 cubic yards of leaves already picked up. The needed restriping on Cass Street and Elkhart Road, at a cost of $800, has been completed. Peak thanked village staff for their work on the leaf pick up and various other recent maintenance needs.

The connection from the new iron filtration plant to the water system was completed without the need of a boil water order. Progress continues on the structure of the plant, with the possibility of the roof being installed in December. An electric motor for Well #1 was replaced after burning out. The motor was part of the original installation and had been repaired and maintained over the years to last until now. The new motor should be more energy efficient. The council approved the cost of the replacement at the cost of $2,2310. Repairs on the old motor were estimated at $18,000.

The council unanimously voted to reappoint Trustee Laura Hughes to an additional term to the Library Board, with the length of time matching her existing term on the Village Council.

The Ambulance Board reported the hiring of a new part time employee and the work on new protocols to be complete by the end of the year. New windows will be installed at the station in the employee common area. One truck is currently being repaired and a new truck will not arrive for two years.

The council approved up to $500 for the purchase of supplies for staff to install downspouts to avoid ice build up around village buildings.

It was announced that village offices would be closed for the holiday on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th. The Cemetery Board will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. The next Village Council meeting will take place on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
