PORTER TOWNSHIP — The work of a Cass County Sheriff’s Office K9 has led to the arrest of a Vandalia man.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke reported that at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, his deputies responded to a domestic assault in the 14000 block of Hideaway Road in Porter Township.

Behnke said that once deputies arrived at the location, the suspect fled out the back door of the residence into a large wooded area. Cass County K9 Faust was requested to track the subject into the wooded area. Faust located the subject hiding in the middle of the large wooded area.

The 28-year-old male from Vandalia, Michigan was transported to Ascension Borgess Hospital in Dowagiac for injuries sustained in the incident. The man was then taken to the Cass County Jail for second offense domestic assault with strangulation and resisting arrest.

This case remains under investigation.
