Trump voters are faithful to their master. They listen to him with a cocked ear just like Nipper the RCA dog hearing, “his master’s voice.”

It soothes them to hear their master deliver one of his tirades bashing and smiting the enemy de jour. This gives them pleasure, a giant, self-gratifying huzzah. Their joy soars the length of their master’s outburst.

But their glee lasts only for a moment and the moment’s gone. That is because when Trump stops speaking the ugly inevitability of reality begins to seep in. Soon the ephemeral thrill is gone.

Dictionaries say that this is the essence of a symbiotic relationship — separate organisms working together in mutual dependency. They feed off each other.

Look closer, and you will see that this is a self-serving marriage, devoid of admiration. It’s an arrangement complete with what you might call “an unstated prenuptial.”

This relationship is purely about survival. If the host organism dies, its mate organism also dies. Let’s be honest, there is no love here. Nipper, the four-legged organism, needs his master, the two-legged organism and vice versa.
