Preliminary investigation rules Niles man’s death a suicide following Mishawaka shooting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. — Preliminary autopsy findings from a Thursday shooting near Mishawaka have ruled a Niles man’s death a suicide.
On Thursday, police were dispatched to the 16400 block of Valley Trail near Mishawaka for a possible murder-suicide. Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of two men with fatal gunshot wounds and multiple firearms.
The victims were identified as Brent Gregory, a 43-year-old who lived at the Valley Trail home, and Kenneth Hunt, a 43-year-old from Niles.
The autopsy showed that Gregory died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide. Hunt’s autopsy showed he died as the result of a single gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide.
The case remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.
