PORTER TOWNSHIP — Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported that 9:45 a.m. Saturday, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a personal injury accident on Union Road at the intersection of Mason Street in Porter Township.

Investigation at the scene determined that 39-year-old Mary McLeroy, of Constantine, Michigan, was westbound on Mason Street when he stopped at the intersection of Union Road. He pulled into the intersection, failing to yield the right of way to a northbound vehicle driven by 66-year-old Brock Vagis, of Vandalia, Michigan.

McLeroy’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side. McLeroy was transported by Porter Township Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Seatbelts were worn by both drivers, and alcohol and or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, according to deputies.

Assisting at the scene was Porter Township Fire Department.
