DOWAGIAC — The city of Dowagiac is offering a relief for those whose finances may have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

In light of coronavirus concerns, the city of Dowagiac announced Tuesday that it would not be disconnecting resident’s utilities for nonpayment. The announcement comes after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer mandated the closure of many businesses, including dine-in restaurants, museums, gyms and more, which may have affected the work of city residents.

“We know our customers are concerned about their families, businesses, and financial burdens, and ensuring that they have reliable utility services allows them to focus on staying healthy and well,” city leaders wrote in a Facebook post. “We at the city are committed to doing what we can to help our customers in this uncertain time.”

The city is still strongly encouraging customers with past due balances to continue to make efforts to pay their account balances. Residents can pay online at the city’s website, by phone at (833) 610-5716, or at one of the drop boxes at city hall and in the alley behind the old Huntington Bank building.
