DOWAGIAC — A local theater season is the most recent casualty of the coronavirus.

The Beckwith Theatre Company, 100 New York Ave., Dowagiac, announced Wednesday it would be postponing its spring show season amid growing concerns about the spread of the virus. The announcement comes after a mandate from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to cancel all events with more than 50 people in attendance.

The company will be canceling its production of “Arsenic and Old Lace,” originally scheduled to show April 24 to May 3, with the hopes of running the show later in the season.

“We are temporarily suspending activities at the Beckwith Theatre Company,” wrote the theater board in a message to its patrons. “As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff and community, this is a necessary measure.”

Fans of the theater can stay tuned for updates by email, online at BeckwithTheatre.com/schedule and on social media.
