Wrestlers earn postseason honors

NILES — The Lakeshore Lancers dominated the All-Southwest Michigan Wrestling Team as it landed four grapplers on the first team.
Aaron Lucio, Micah Hanau, Shane Williams and Zeke Rohl were selected by the area wrestling coaches. Lakeshore’s Williams was named the Frank Mucha Wrestler of the Year, while Bruce Bittenbender was selected as the Coach of the Year after leading the Lancers to the state semifinals.
Niles had a pair of first-team selections as Ryan Franco and Jamison Zimmerman were honored at 125 and 112 pounds respectively. Franco finished third at the Division 2 state finals last weekend.
Brandywine’s Hunter Heath, who went 51-4 this past season and finished seventh in Division 3, was a first-team pick at 145 pounds.
Earning second-team honors for the Vikings were Niles’ Mikey Robles (103) and Javond Ball (135). Dowagiac’s Tyler Huston (119), Laberto Paredes (160), and Wyatt Bailey (285) were also named to the second team.
Honorable mention selections from Dowagiac were Jordan Simpson (103), Alex McIntosh (130), and Mike Schlup (215); Aaron Lauri (119), Mat Cox (125), Brandywine’s Ivory McCullough (171) from Brandywine; and Carson Landon (119), Skylar Means (140), Kade Wagley (145), Hunter Fazi (152), Chase Andres (215), and Caiden Smith (285) from Niles.
The All-Southwest Michigan Wrestling Team is selected by the area wrestling coaches.
