This weekend, things in downtown Dowagiac are set to get a little icy.
Saturday, the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce will host its 24th annual Ice Time festival to celebrate the winter season. Festivities begin at 8 a.m. with ice carving along Front Street. Throughout the day there will be many activities including human foosball, arts and crafts, an adoption event with Cass County Animal Control, a sled dog meet and greet, hot chocolate and warming stations, a chili crawl, the frozen fish toss open competition, outdoor games, an ice cream eating contest and more.
In addition, several downtown shops will be offering specials. The day will conclude with the Young Professionals of Greater Dowagiac’s annual Daddy Daughter Snowball Dance.
With projected weather highs of 37 degrees and snow for Saturday, hopefully the weather will be perfect for a day full of festivities.
Last year was my first Ice Time, and even though I was on the clock, I had a blast attending. Not only did I get see some amazing ice sculptures and taste some delicious chili, I got to see the potential Dowagiac has to offer.
I’ve always said the people in Dowagiac are some of the friendliest you will meet, and never is that more apparent than during one of the city’s festivals. Every business on Front Street comes together to show Dowagiac pride in a way that makes visitors feel like they are right at home.
I always enjoy myself at Dowagiac festival, and Ice Time is no exception. Plus, Ice Time features sled dogs as one of its attractions, and any event that has dogs is one of the best in my opinion.
Whether you are a Dowagiac resident or live in a neighboring city, I hope to see you out this weekend at Ice Time. Between all of the events and the city’s dedication, it is sure to be a great time.
