Athlete Showcase: Brandywine’s Kennedy Byrd

Kennedy Byrd is a senior on the Brandywine girls basketball team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

KB: Winning regionals with my basketball team last year.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

KB: Never winning a BCS Conference championship.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

KB: My uncle, Kris, because he is the hardest working athlete I know.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

KB: Right before tip-off.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

KB: When I fall every game.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

KB: I usually shoot and then condition by running.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

KB: Volleyball.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

KB: Sports help build character and teach life lessons.

How would you give away $50,000?

KB: I would help pay my grandparents’ medical bills.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

KB: The Milwaukee Bucks.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

KB: Work.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

KB: Running our full-court press.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

KB: The three-second violation in the paint.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

KB: I have a great work ethic.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

KB: Guard Jayla Bibbs as a freshman, yes.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

KB: My sister’s musical.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

KB: Playing sports, because I’ve made life-long friends.
