BSA scouts to host annual Klondike Derby

JONES — Scouts from Pioneer Trails District of LaSalle Council, BSA, which serves Elkhart and Cass counties, will be hosting annaul their Klondike Derby at Wood Lake Scout Reservation from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The reservation is located at 10891 Withers St., Jones. Headquarters will be at the trading post during registration.

Scouts BSA patrols and Venturing crews will be doing winter tent camping all weekend and participating in Scouting skill contests on Saturday. Scouts will be required to prepare their own meals for the entire weekend.

Each patrol built a dog sled that will be filled with the equipment they need for the challenging skills tests, then pulled by the Scouts from station to station.

There will be an opening flag ceremony at 8 a.m., followed by sled judging, four station activities, a sled race and a tug of war.

This will be the first year Scouts BSA girl patrols will participate in this winter event.
