NELDON: Who are the leaders of tomorrow?

Published 7:57 am Thursday, December 26, 2019

As we close out one decade and look forward to another, many of us are not only setting resolutions for the year ahead, but reflecting on the year behind us.

Earlier this week, the Leader Publications newsroom hosted its annual lookback to determine the top stories of the year, and, as I have learned is typical, we were surprised at how much had happened.

In 2019, we welcomed more businesses than we could count. Students learned in freshly renovated classrooms. A new medical facility opened its doors. New leadership took over in local government and education. Policies changed, jobs were created and residential opportunities grew.

Of course, none of these changes happened by accident, and each required a significant amount of work.

Some of the movers and shakers responsible for the growth our region are recognized regularly in our news products. As we document changes, we talk to the key leaders representing our government and business community.

However, we know there are so many unsung heroes who help enact change. These are the busy bees behind the scenes — the boots on the ground, so to speak. They are board members and volunteers, employees and active citizens. They are champions for change, dedicated to building a bigger and brighter future for Michiana.

As we continue our work on Horizons 2020: A Vision for the Future, Leader Publications is seeking your input.

Who are these unsung heroes? Who are the leaders of tomorrow?

Our staff would like to recognize these individuals — but we need your help.

As you ponder your own successes of the past year, I encourage you to reflect on the success of our community, and then think to yourself, “who do I know who was responsible for this change? Who deserves recognition?”

Once you have clinked your glasses and toasted the New Year, please take the time to write a quick nomination — 300 words or less — and share it with our team. Our staff will review the nominations, and select the top 10 movers and shakers to be recognized in Horizons 2020.

Nominations should be emailed to news@leaderpub.com by no later than Thursday, Jan. 16.

We look forward to reviewing your nominations, and cannot wait to share them with you in Horizons this February.
