Niles wins Don Johnson crown

EAST LANSING — Niles travels to the Don Johnson Invitational, and came away a winner on Saturday.

The Vikings dominated the field, scoring 173 points compared to runner-up Forest Hills Northern, which finished with 160.5 points. Springport was a distant third with 150 points.

Winning championships on the day for Niles were Jamison Zimmerman (112), Ryan Franco (135), Javond Ball (140) and Kade Wagley (145).

Finishing second were Mikey Robles (112), Skyler Means (145) and Connor Tibbitts (152).

The Vikings return to the mat Wednesday when they travel to Grandville for a quad. Wrestling is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Dowagiac wrestling

VICKSBURG — The Dowagiac wrestling team finished second at the Vicksburg Invitational on Saturday.

The Chieftains went 4-1 on the day, losing only to No. 6-ranked Lakewood 42-31.

Dowagiac (4-2) defeated Brandywine 55-22, Decatur 66-18, Martin 67-12 and Cassopolis 72-12.

Going undefeated on the day for the Chieftains were Jordan Simpson (103), Alex McIntosh (130/135), Deny White (152/160) and Wyatt Bailey (285).

Adrian Lee won his only match of the day against Lakewood.

Dowagiac will open up its Wolverine Conference schedule on Wednesday when it hosts defending champion Edwardsburg. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
