Roundup: Bobcats win in opener, Niles falls to Wildcats

KALAMAZOO — Visiting Brandywine led at every quarter break on its way to a 55-47 non-conference boys basketball victory over Kalamazoo Christian Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (1-0) led 15-10 after one quarter and 28-25 by halftime. Brandywine opened up a little breathing room heading to the final quarter as it led the Comets 40-34.

Niles transfer Kendall Chrisman led Brandywine and all scorers with 19 points. The Bobcats also got 18 points from Jaelen Briggs and 11 points from Jordan Abrams.

Brando DeVries had 11 points for Kalamazoo Christian.

Brandywine returns to action Friday night as it hosts rival Bridgman in its BCS Athletic Conference Red Division opener.

Niles basketball

THREE RIVERS — Host Three Rivers spoiled the debut of Niles coach Patrick Touhey with a 76-67 non-conference win Tuesday night.

After taking a 15-11 lead in the opening quarter, the Wildcats were able to extend their advantage to 10 points where it stayed for the second and third quarter breaks.

Three Rivers led 57-47 heading into the final eight minutes of action.

Nate Goins, A Thomas and Brayden Lake all scored 16 points to lead the Vikings, who will host Portage Northern Friday night.

The Vikings won the freshman contest 51-14.

Max Henderson and Corey Maust had 13 and 12 points respectively, while Casey Marlin added 10 points.
