LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Make your voices heard

Published 8:46 am Thursday, December 5, 2019

I have an admission to make.

I drove 1,000 miles (round trip) to our cabin in deepest, darkest Upper Peninsula with the expressed purpose of killing male deer.

I didn’t shoot anything. But I burned gasoline.  My full apologies to the students of Edwardsburg, Cassopolis, Brandywine and Niles high schools.  All schools, in fact. All youngsters, in fact.

To you students, I am sorry. I seriously compromised your future. I support your sports teams. And I cheer. Then I turn around and add more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The latest update issued by the United Nations portrayed your future as bleak because greenhouse gas emissions are still rising dangerously.

Countries have failed to halt the rise of greenhouse gas emissions despite repeated warnings from scientists. China and the U.S. are the two biggest polluters.

As a result, emissions must decline sharply, by 7.6 percent every year, between 2020 and 2030 the report warned.

You kids are not powerless. You can vote. Now, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may request an absentee voter ballot without providing a reason.  You have no excuse not to participate in the election process any more. Go for it.
