Niles, South Bend police officers work together to make arrest in Saturday morning armed robbery

NILES TOWNSHIP — After an armed robbery at the Approved Cash store on S. 11th Street Saturday, one suspect has been arrested, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The robbery occurred at 9:47 a.m. Saturday, at Approved Cash, 2527 S. 11th St. in Belle Plaza. Not long after, South Bend police officers located the vehicle used in the robbery at a nearby apartment complex.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office authorized a search warrant at one of the apartments, and located a number of items tying the individuals to the robbery.

One of the suspects was found near the vehicle, was later arrested and lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on armed robbery charges. The suspect will be extradited to Michigan.

The second suspect was identified, and charges will follow.

Suspects’ names are withheld pending arraignment.

Departments involved included Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Detective Bureau, Michigan State Police, South Bend Police Department, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office.
