Niles children earn spots on Bud Prince, Princess Court

STEVENSVILLE — Two Niles children earned spots on the Miss Blossomtime Bud Prince and Princess Courts of Honor last Sunday.

Fifty-three children between the ages of 6 and 12 competed on Sunday, Nov. 24 for the titles of Blossomtime Bud Prince and Princess and Miss Jr. Teen Blossomtime. The pageant was hosted at the Lakeshore High School Auditorium.  The theme for the show was “Be Happy,” and the contestants performed a dance choreographed by Cammie Hernandez of Connie Cassidy School of Dance to the song “Happy” from the Pharrell Williams.  The pageant was emceed by Lindsay LeValley.

The Blossomtime Festival Bud Prince and Princess and Jr. Teen is a tradition that began in the 1930s. The young titleholders will take an active role in the festival by serving as Grand Marshals of the youth parade and shoe box parade, riding on the Bud Prince and Princess/Jr. Teen float in the Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, May 2, 2020 and will participate in many other Blossomtime events, including the coronation ball, the Blessing of the Blossoms, attending many community pageants and being introduced on stage at the Miss Blossomtime Pageant March 16, 2020.

Winners included:

• Bud Princess — Honora Baum, 7, of St. Joseph. She attends Brown School Elementary and it’s the daughter of Katherine and Brandon Baum. She said she enjoys vacationing with her family to New Orleans, cheerleading, arts and crafts, and skateboarding.

• Bud Prince — Zachary Iwaniuk, 7, of Niles. He attends Eastside Connections and is the sone of Jennifer and Rory Iwaniuk. He said he enjoys going camping, wrestling and hunting.

• Bud Princess first runner up — Kaelyn Jacobs, 8, of Coloma. She attend Coloma Elementary and is the daughter of Loretta and Tony Jacobs. She said she enjoys making slime, playing with friends and riding her bike with her family.

• Bud Prince first runner up — Cameron Johns, 6, of St. Joseph. He attends Brown School Elementary and is the son of Mandi and Jason Johns. He said he enjoys math, reading going to the beach, playing baseball and football.

• Bud Princess second runner up — Kenley Weston, 9, of Niles. She attends Eastside Connections and is the daughter of Kristi and Frank Weston. She said she enjoys gymnastics, dance, Girl Scouts, cheer and singing.   

• Bud Prince second runner up — Isaac Hudsonn, 6, of St. Joseph. He attends E.P. Clarke and is the son of Talitha Hudson. He said he enjoys going to the waterpark, playing video games and baseball.

• Miss Jr. Teen Blossomtime — Lillian Smith, 12, of Stevensville. She attends Lakeshore Middle School and is the daughter of Kimberly and Christopher Smith. She participates in cheerleading, cross country, basketball, band and tumbling.

• Miss Jr. Teen Blossomtime first runner up — Grace Callahan, 10, of St. Joseph. She attends Hollywood Elementary and is the daughter of Morgan and Joseph Callahan. She participates in Girl Scouts, travel softball, gymnastics and Rocket football cheerleading.

• Miss Jr. Teen Blossomtime second runner up — Allie Ramirez, 12, of Stevensville. She attends Lakeshore Middle School and is the daughter of Debbie and Remie Ramirez. She said she enjoys organizing anything, reading, playing volleyball and making art projects.
