BUCHANAN — Members of the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council helped to complete piggy banks at their monthly meeting in Buchanan Sunday. Piggy banks are given to all kindergarten students as part of a career savings account program associated with the Buchanan Promise. In addition to the piggy banks, each kindergarten student receives a $50 savings bond that can only be accessed upon graduation.

The Youth Advisory Council is made up of high school students from Buchanan, Niles, Brandywine, Cassopolis, Edwardsburg and Dowagiac high schools, and meets once per month to allocate grants, volunteer with various community service projects and obtain leadership training.
